Extinction rebellion Switzerland

This is an emergency

We are currently experiencing global warming of 1.3 degrees (2 degrees in Switzerland). The last time the atmosphere contained this much CO2 was 3 million years ago. Loss of biodiversity. Crop failure. Social and ecological collapse. Mass extinctions. The current warming is unprecedented for humanity and is leading us into a dangerous and unknown world.

In the face of this catastrophe, which scientists have been urgently predicting for over 30 years, Swiss politics continues to close its eyes and pour oil on fire.

The citizens of this country and of the whole world therefore have the right and the duty to rebel - regardless of their political views. To protect their lives and the lives of their children.

Status quo of the national working groups

The national working groups had emerged to coordinate the October 2021 actions in Zurich. As there are currently no further actions planned, they have put their activities on hold until the next supra-regional activities.

Anyone and any group of people can be a part of Extinction Rebellion. Central structures are only needed for central actions.

You can find the list of active local groups here. You can also find a folder of public resources here, and find information here on how you can access further resources of the national working groups, and which Rebels from these groups may still be available for individual support.

The Rebellion in Zurich

In October 2021, hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds peacefully rebelled in Zurich. Almost 200 rebels were arrested. The rebels showed so much courage, determination, calmness and honesty. They have shown that there are people in this country who know how to take courage when necessary. That they refuse to condemn the younger generation to a hell on earth. Our demands

That is not what is realistic. It is what is needed to ensure a future worth living for ourselves and our children.

Tell the truth

Swiss government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.

Act now

It must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

Citizens’ assembly

Swiss governments must create and be led by the decisions of Citizens’ Assemblies on climate and ecological justice.
